Lateral Linking Captures Papal Tour

Lateral Linking Broadcast played a major role in the World Youth Day (WYD) events held in Sydney in July 2008. LLB worked with IMG to provide television coverage of the week’s activities.

IMG, the world's premier and most diversified sports, entertainment and media company, was the global host broadcaster for WYD.

This included a stabilised helicopter camera platform from Tony Monk Films and the establishment of a transmission/receiving station on top of the MLC Centre tower in Sydney’s CBD.

Signals were sent back to the control room for the host broadcaster at the Darling Harbour Convention Centre.
LLB transmitted images from the range of WYD 2008 activities and locations including Pope Benedict XVI’s Papal Boat-a-cade across Sydney Harbour to the Barangaroo site at East Darling Harbour, and the following Stations of the Cross trail through the city to Barangaroo.

The Pope’s road trips through Sydney’s CBD were covered by helicopter and golf-buggy based location cameras. At Randwick the final mass, attended by more than 400,000 people, was also captured.

LLB, working with Auditoria, also supplied links to provide images for big screens in Barangaroo, Tumbalong Park at Darling Harbour, and Randwick.

Audio links were also supplied for a dedicated FM radio transmitter which broadcast throughout the city during WYD.
