HD RF Links debut with Cutting Edge at ANZAC AFL

ANZAC Day 2007 marked the debut for Lateral Linking Broadcast's new High Definition (HD) wireless links when they were used to support Network Ten™s HD AFL coverage. The 24 camera event was one of the largest HD outside broadcasts ever staged in Australia and the first withHD RF coverage. The Nucomm CamPac 2 HD/SD Wireless Camera Transmitter links are the first in Australia. The next generation COFDM camera-back transmitters are designed to deliver the highest quality HD/SD video for a wide range of applications. As soon as the new HD links arrived in the country they were rapidly pressed into use by Cutting Edge Outside Broadcast, which has provided a full range of services for Network Ten and the production company AFL Films. For the ANZAC day AFL the links were married with Cutting Edge™s remote camera control system supplied by Camera Corps UK and used with two Sony HDC-1500 HD cameras. "We managed to achieve a very neat and robust package in a short amount of time - this was ultimately very simple after tight deadlines for the delivery of components" explained Steve Mitchell, Cutting Edge Special Projects Manager for outside broadcasts. The HD RF Camera links were used for a Steadicam on the field of play to run out with the players, through the banners, and provide very smooth tracking shots during the pre-match entertainment, warm ups, and half time action. The second camera was a standard hand held arrangement and was used to travel through the crowd and pick up action in places a cabled camera could not get to.
